from-marrakech-atlas-desert-short-tour-mapOur Atlas Mountains & Sahara Desert Short Tour (Marrakech, Boumalne, Merzouga, Ouarzazate, Marrakech) takes you from Marrakech, over the spectacular Tichka Pass, through spectacular gorges, valleys and kasbahs, and into the vast Moroccan Sahara for a night under the desert stars.  Get a wonderful insight into life in the mountains and desert of Morocco.


DAY 1: Marrakech – Ouarzazate – Kelaat M’Gouna – Boumalne Dades (314kms)

morocco-roseDepart Marrakech for Dades via the stunning Tichka Pass (2260m) which offers dramatic panoramic views in the heart of the Atlas Mountain chain.  Pass through Ouarzazate, and on to Skoura, a small village on the north side of the road which probably has the most beautiful palm grove in southern Morocco with dozens of inhabited and uninhabited kasbahs.  This whole region is called The Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs.  Drive through Kelaat M’Gouna where a rose festival is held every May, to the stunning valleys and gorges of Boumalne Dades.  Overnight in Boumalne Dades

DAY 2: Boumalne Dades – Todra – Merzouga (251kms)

Depart Boumalne Dades for Merzouga, via Tinghir and Erfoud.  In Merzouga, take a camel to explore the Erg Chebbi region of the Sahara desert, and begin your Moroccan desert adventure!  Watch the sunset over the majestic Sahara dunes, and spend the night in an oasis in a Berber tent.  Overnight in the desert oasis.

*If a camel trek is not really your thing, you can still experience the magic of the dunes by staying in a hotel right at their edge.

DAY 3: Merzouga – Rissani – Tazarine – Agdez – Ouarzazate (295kms)

morocco-sahaWake up in the early morning to watch the sunrise over the dunes and return by camel to Merzouga.   Depart Merzouga for Ouarzazate.  On the way explore Rissani, Tazarine, and Agdez, the highest part of the magnificent Draa Valley.  Overnight in Ouarzazate.

DAY 4: Ouarzazate – Marrakech (203kms)

Morocco-AitDepart Ouarzazate for Marrakech.  Along the way visit Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, one of Morocco’s most magnificent Kasbah.  This setting has been used for more films than any other location in Morocco; including, Lawrence of Arabia, Jesus of Nazareth, and The Gladiator.  Your tour ends in Marrakech.
