Our Fes –Chefchaouen Short Tour takes you from Fes to Chefchaouen, nestled high in the Rif Mountains, just inland from Tangier and Tetouan.  A popular destination, Chefchaouen is famous for its vivid blue rinsed houses and buildings.  Winding lanes and narrow alleys are home to numerous souks offering cuisine and artisan works, such as woollen items, intricate embroidery, and goats cheese; all native to the North and not found anywhere else in Morocco.


 

DAY 1: Fes – Chefchaouen (199kms)

morocco-chefchaouen-blue-laneDepart from Fes for Chefchaouen, taking a leisurely journey through the Ouezzane, a town lying on the southern edge of the Rif Mountains.  Well known as a holy city because of its zawiya (saint’s mausoleum), as well as being an important location for Jewish people who make an annual pilgrimage to visit the tomb of Rabbi Amrane ben Diwan.  The journey is filled with rolling and fertile hillsides, lush with olive groves.  Arrive in Chefchaouen, settle into your accommodation, and relax after your drive.  Overnight in Chefchaouen.

DAY 2: Chefchaouen

morocco-chefchaouen-park-tagineSpend the day exploring this charming and unique town.  Wander the blue washed narrow alleys of the friendly medina with your guide who will share stories of the town’s rich history.  Browse the small shops, famous for their woollen goods, woven rugs and blankets.  At the heart of the Medina is Plaza Uta El Hammam, a lively square lined with cafes and restaurants.  It is the perfect place to relax over a leisurely lunch or after your full day of sightseeing.  From the square see the Kasbah and Grand Mosque.  The walled fortress of the Kasbah contains beautiful gardens, near which is the small museum and art gallery which houses the rich culture of the Rif Mountains.  From the rooftop view a spectacular panorama of the blue and white washed houses, tiled roofs and tiny balconies.  After exploring the medina take a guided walk in the nearby hillsides.  Talassemtane National Park lies on the outskirts of the town, home to some wonderful walks and magnificent waterfalls. Relax over a leisurely dinner in the evening or experience a hammam, a traditional Moroccan spa experience.

DAY 3: Chefchaouen – Fes (265kms)

Return to Fes via the Ketama region, the heart of the Rif, and Taounate.  Take in the stunning scenery as you travel through the mountain region filled with forests.
