Meknes/Volubilis

Day-Excursions-FesVisit the imperial city of Meknes.  See the old medina, surrounded by a triple thickness of 40km long walls which preserves the most beautiful gate in Morocco, Ban El Mansour; the Royal Stables of the Alaouite Sultan Moulay Ismail, and the Jewish Quarter. After lunch, make your way back to Fes, stopping along the way at the holy town of Moulay Idriss, where the founder of Islam is buried.  Also visit the sprawling ancient ruins of Volubilis, a 2000 year old Roman city with remains of palaces, baths, basilicas and stunning mosaics.

Middle Atlas

Day-Excursions-Fes2Take a day trip to the cedar forests which are the Middle Atlas mountains.  Visit Ifrane, a well-known ski resort town created in 1929; cool and green, with its numerous lakes and fountains.  Continue to the town of Azrou, an important centre for Berber artisans.  Time it right and visit the bustling weekly Azrou market. On the return journey see the Morocco Barbary macaque monkeys.
