Fes Desert Short Tour (3 Nights)

from-fes-fes-desert-short-tour-mapOur Fes Desert Short Tour (Fes, Merzouga, Boumalne Dades, Marrakech) takes you from the ancient Imperial city of Fes, through the Middle Atlas Mountains, into the vast Moroccan Sahara for a night under the desert stars, and over the mountains to Marrakech.  Get a wonderful insight into the diversity of Morocco in a short space of time.


DAY 1: Fes – Ifrane – Azrou – Midelt – Erfoud – Merzouga (470kms)

Set off early for the Middle Atlas Mountains, passing through the towns and villages of Ifrane, Azrou and Midelt.  Continue on the road following the spectacular Ziz Valley and watch as the scenery evolves from mountain to the rocky desertscape of the Sahara.  Overnight in Merzouga.

DAY 2: Merzouga – Erg Chebbi – Merzouga

morocco-desert-camel-trekSpend the day exploring the desert.  Drive into the desert, visiting nomads, oasis, the dunes of Erg Chebbi, and the village of Khamlia to enjoy original music of the Gnawa people.  Late afternoon take camels to watch the sunset over the majestic Sahara dunes, and spend the night in an oasis in a Berber tent.  Overnight in the desert oasis.

DAY 3: Merzouga – Boumalne Dades (251kms)

After watching the sunrise over the Sahara dunes return to Merzouga.  Head for the spectacular canyons of the Todra Gorge, and continue your journey to the impressive Dades valley. Overnight in Boumalne Dades.

DAY 4: Boumalne Dades – Kelaat M’Gouna –- Ouarzazate – – Ait Ben Haddou – Marrakech (313kms)

morocco-ait-ben-haddou-kasbah 1Depart Boumalne Dades for Marrakech.  Drive through Kelaat M’Gouna where a rose festival is held every May, and through Skoura, a small village on the north side of the road which probably has the most beautiful palm grove in southern Morocco with dozens of inhabited and uninhabited kasbahs.  This whole region is called The Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs.  Carry on via Ouarzazate and Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site, used for more films than any other location in Morocco; including, Lawrence of Arabia and The Gladiator.  Your journey to Marrakech continues via the stunning Tichka Pass (2260m) which offers dramatic panoramic views in the heart of the Atlas Mountain chainYour tour ends in Marrakech
