Fes Short Tour (2 Nights)

Our Fes Short Tour explores Fes, the spiritual capital of Morocco, and its stunning surrounding areas.  Visit the Middle Atlas, Meknes or take a cooking class – the choice is yours!

DAY 1: Fes

Arrive in Fes. Pick up from airport/train station and transfer to your Riad. Overnight in Fes.

DAY 2: Explore Fes

Your day is fully devoted to exploring Fes, the most ancient and holy of the Imperial cities. Guided through the 2000 year old medina, with its never-ending labyrinth of narrow lanes which are alive with markets and souks, craftsmen plying ancient trades, donkeys and mules transporting their loads, you will feel you have stumbled into another time.  Visit the Attarine and Bou Anania Medersas (Islamic universities), the Nejjarine fountain, the Moulay Idriss Mausoleum, and the Karaouine Mosque.  Relax over lunch at a traditional restaurant in the Medina. Finish your tour with a visit to Fez Jdid, and the revered Merenid Tombs for a spectacular panoramic view of Fez.  Overnight in Fes.

DAY3: Cooking Class, Middle Atlas, or Meknes/Volubilis

morocco-berber-carpet-marketTake a relaxing break from the city and choose from these options for today:

  • Visit the imperial city of Meknes.  See the old medina, surrounded by a triple thickness of 40km long walls which preserves the most beautiful gate in Morocco, Ban El Mansour; the Royal Stables of the Alaouite Sultan Moulay Ismail, and the Jewish Quarter. After lunch, make your way back to Fes, stopping at the holy town of Moulay Idriss, where the founder of Islam is buried.  Also visit the sprawling ancient ruins of Volubilis, a 2000 year old Roman city with remains of palaces, baths, basilicas and stunning mosaics.
  • Take a trip to the Middle Atlas mountains.  Located in the cedar forests, visit Ifrane, a well-known ski resort town created in 1929, and Azrou, an important centre for Berber artisans.  Time it right and visit the bustling weekly Azrou market (Tuesday).
  • Spend the day in a cooking class, where you will choose your ingredients, cook, and then relax over lunch as you sample your culinary creations.
